RBS Six Nations Wales v Scotland

RBS Six Nations Wales v Scotland

Sat Feb 13, 2010 at Millennium Stadium Cardiff

United Kingdom at 2:00 pm

Wales play host to Scotland in another edition of one of the oldest derbies in the world, making this game much more than an international friendly. Both teams missed out on qualifying for South Africa 2010.

The side managed by John Toshack were in Group 4 of the qualifiers and managed only a 4th place finish with 12 points from 10 matches, 6 behind 3rd place Finland. Toshack remains as manager despite failing at least a playoff berth and he will be using this contest to prepare for the upcoming 2012 Euro qualifiers. Among the surprise call ups for Wales are goalkeeper David Cornell of Swansea City, 17 year old Adam Matthews of Cardiff City and Andy Dorman of St. Mirren.

Scotland came very close to qualifying as they finished in 3rd place of Group 9 with 10 points, just behind 2nd place Norway on goal difference. Much like his Welsh counterpart, manager George Burley will be using this match to get a look at some new faces with an eye towards the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers. This will be the first cap for goalkeeper Jamie Langfield of Aberdeen and defender Danny Fox of Celtic.
